Rachel Deiterding is a researcher, curator, and writer based between Toronto/Tkaronto and London, Ontario.
Rachel’s curatorial practice centres alternative modes of understanding the world that encourages participants to question their role within every changing realities. Her projects are driven by institutional and community desires, bringing together theory and practice in ways that are engaging and inclusive.
She holds a Masters of Museum Studies from the University of Toronto. Her Master’s thesis, Decolonizing or Changemaking: Professional Perspectives on Decolonizing in Small- and Medium-sized Public Art Institutions, supervised by Cara Krmpotich and Mikinaak Migwans, presents a landscape study of decolonizing efforts in public galleries across Ontario and suggests a path forward rooted in critical reflection and slow museology. She completed her undergraduate work in Art History and Museum Studies at Western University, which included an exchange at the University of Leeds where she focused on Art Gallery and Museum Studies.
She is currently Curator of Collections and Special Projects at McIntosh Gallery, Western University.
